Trade Summary
Offseason Trade Timing
When a trade is made after the Regular Season, but before the new Salary Cap Year starts on July 1st, you must use the lesser of the earned salary in the past season or the guaranteed compensation for the upcoming season.
Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis had no available TPE’s to absorb the salaries of Anthony or KCP in a separate trade. As a result, Bane’s entire Salary had to be used in an Expanded TPE to acquire both Anthony and KCP.
Because Memphis took in more salary than it sent out using the Expanded TPE and are hard-capped at the First Apron for the 2025-2026 Season.
Orlando Magic
Bane had a trade kicker. However, trade kickers are reduced to keep the player at his applicable Maximum Salary at the time of the Trade. Bane has an Unlikely Bonus ($1,141,75) that, when added to his Salary, brings him to exactly 25% of the Salary Cap. As a result, his trade kicker is $0 and it is not attributed toward incoming Salary.
Orlando sent out more Salary than they acquired, but they needed to aggregate contracts to do so. Therefore they used the Aggregated TPE. This hard caps them at the Second Apron for the 2025-2026 Season.
